The Purposes of the Society To promote, through education and other means, dignity and simplicity in funeral arrangements To plan for its members and their families either Simple Cremation or Simple Burial as described below To aid in the bequest of body or anatomical gifts (cornea, kidney, temporal bones) to medical science. Simple Cremation A funeral establishment transports the body without embalming to a crematory where it is cremated. Simple Burial This includes placing the body in a modest coffin and private burial before the memorial service, if any. Why is the Society Needed? It has been the experience of most people that if they wait to make funeral arrangements until the time of death in the family, emotional stress and lack of time cause them to acquiesce to conventional funeral arrangements of which they do not fully approve. The Society seeks to correct this discrepancy between belief and practice for its members. The Society is organized around the central belief in cremation or private burial before memorial services are held. The utmost simplicity in funeral services is recommended. Some members prefer to dispense with a memorial service entirely.
